Course on Spanish Language and Cooking in a beautiful setting
For everybody who is in love with Spain, Barnsdale Business Language Training organizes a fantastic active learning holiday in a beautifully renovated farm in the countryside near Girona: Can Piferrer. Can Piferrer is a traditional Catalan farm, built in 1740. The estate has been painstakingly restored and is equipped with all luxuries. Can Piferrer is surrounded by farmlands, woods with holm-oaks and pine trees, brooks and small rivers. From the plain where the farm is located, you have views over the El Montseny mountain massif and the Pyrenees. In a word, a stay in Can Piferrer is a treat for nature-lovers!
Plus all kinds of activities
Can Piferrer has bicycles available for active course members. The farm runs a beautiful cycle path nearby that used to be a small railway-line, calles El Carrilet. It runs from Olot in the promontory of the Pyrenees to the beach of Sant Feliu. At a stone’s throw you can get onboard of a balloon to get an aerial view of the luxuriant surroundings. A few kilometers away from Can Piferrer is the city of Girona, with its impressive ancient city center. Plus, several Costa Brava beaches are just 15 kilometres away.
Art
Art-lovers also have numerous possibilities at their disposal. Take the Dali tour,
a journey along four Dali museums, including the castle he furnished
for his wife, Gala, and his marvellous villa on the Mediterranean. Also
worth visiting is the seaside resort Cadaqués, where Dali spent his summers as a child. You can reach Barcelona in about an hour by car or train (there is a railway station five
kilometres from Can Piferrer). If you decide to come a few days before
the start of the course on Spanish Language and Cooking, or if you
choose to prolong your stay a couple of days, we highly recommend a
visit to the capital of the Mediterranean Union.
Gastronomy
Spanish cooking is at present one of the most prestigious cuisines, and that is not suprising, because in Spanish cooking creativity and variety go hand in hand with the health profits of the Mediterranean Diet. In the neighbourhood of Can Piferrer you can find numerous excellent restaurants, but you can also start working yourself as a mediterranean cook. During the course, a professional Spanish cook will be cooking both for lunch as for supper, and if desired he will give chapter and verse. And of course everyone who wishes will get a chance to assist the maître.
Program of the Course on Spanish Language and Cooking
Arrival
At 7 pm on Sunday night you will be warmly welcomed at Can Piferrer. At 8 pm pa amb tomàquet (traditional Catalan farmhouse bread spread with garlic, tomato and olive oil and dressed with varied meats, cheeses and omelettes) will be served. If you would like to settle in before, please contact Barnsdale. Participants are responsible for their own transport. You will receive a detailed itinerary in advance. If desired, Barnsdale can order a taxi for you that will take you from the Girona airport or the railway station to Can Piferrer.
Monday to thursday: 20 hours of Spanish language
You will receive language training from one or several of Barnsdale Business Language Training’s qualified Spanish teachers, depending on the number of participants. Before lunch, there will be three and a half hours of language training, with a break after the first two hours. After lunch, you will get two more hours of training. We will start at beginner’s level (in the near future we will offer continuation courses).
Lunch and supper
Lunch and supper will be prepared by a professional Spanish cook, who will explain - in Spanish, to be sure - all about the traditional Spanish dishes that are on the menu. And indeed, the course members are free to help him out. At the end of the course, you will be handed out the recipes of all the dishes.
Afternoon activities
Between 4 and 8 pm you can enjoy the numerous recreational possibilities offered at Can Piferrer, including walking, bike riding, swimming. Participants who want to visit Girona or Figueres will be dropped at the Caldes de Malavella railway station (a spa town in its own right that deserves a visit as well).
Workshops
During every Spanish course we will offer one or several workshops. The working language will be Spanish, as clear and simple as possible. If necessary, the main points will be explained in English.

Departure
Friday morning you have until 1 pm for a leisurely departure. Of course, a solid breakfast will be served before you depart. If you wish to prolong your stay a couple of days, please contact Barnsdale Business Language Training.

This price per person applies to couples or course members that don’t object sharing a room with a fellow course member. The fee for course members who prefer to have a room of their own is €1250.
Register paying 30% of the fees by bank tranfer to Barnsdale SL. The rest of the fees for the course on Spanish Language and Cooking must be payed before the start of the course.
